I met Betty in our freshman session and it was an immediate connection that lasted throughout the years. For four years we socialized, laughed, gossiped and enjoyed talking about our boyfriends together. After that we both became young married mothers and stayed in touch for many years and then sort of drifted away as life takes us to different areas. What I always marveled at Was how the connection was instantaneously revived no matter how many years had gone by.  It was like we had just been out at Hal's drive-in the night before or cruising Highwood in my 1956 blue and white station wagon, when it was indeed 20 years! No one ever made me laugh or smile as much as Betty. One in 1 million!

I haven't seen Betty since High school, unless we connected at one of the reunions, but I have a wonderful memory to share. In 8th grade at Elm Place, there being no girls track team, Betty and I challenged the boy's track team to a 100 or 50 yard dash. We both beat the boys! And never forgot it! Wow, was that a long time ago!

Betty was very sweet and I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. My deepest condolences to her family and more recent friends. She was wonderful. With love. Susan (Pooka)Parker Curra

Betty was in my freshman Algebra class.  I always stared at her and admired her cutness

and innocence.  I never had enough nerve to ask her on a date.  Just one of my many regrets,

My condolences to the family.

I remember Betty quite fondly as a "tiny but mighty" spitfire of a lady with an unforgettable "sweet-and-sour" sense of humor, very devoted to her family and friends, hard working and always sincerely friendly, truly one of a kind.

The the night I met Betty is perminently etched in my memory. It occured at a dance held at a country club, I believe, it was located on the north side of H.P.  I had attended the dance with a girl by the name of Karen Franklin. I was powerfully attracted to her, but the gears of our personalities just didn't seem to mesh. Consiquently, shortly after arriving at the dance we drifted apart.  Somehow, I ended up dancing with Betty, whom I hadn't known prior to that evening.

We spent the entire night apoxied together, as we tightly swayed around on the dance floor to fifties rock.  When the dance ended, we agreed to meet for a date. Betty seemed enthusiastic to continue what we'd started, a sentiment I shared.

Several days later, however, I received a phone call from her older brother, Larry Powers.

"Stay away from my sister," were his only words.  They scared me to the depths. I knew Larry as a bully who was strong, tough and willing to fight. I was small, weak and afraid of violence. His words terrified me. I had no inclination of tangling with Larry under any circumstances, even a girl I was attracted to. I feared results would be bloody.

I replied with a simple "O.K."

Regretfully, I never again spoke to Betty, but the memory of that night and the feelings from the dance floor are burned into my memory forever.

So sad she's no longer with us. But from the remarks above I'm happy to know that she had a wonderful and productive life.
