Al was a member of my session. He laterbecame my butcher when he worked at the A7p store in Deerfield. Always very accommodating when asked to do something special.

Gene ALTMAN, M. D.

I have always remembered a home run Allan hit during a pick-up game one weekend. Maybe it was one of those sweltering late summer days. When Allan swung that bat around there was a crack like thunder as he connected with all his body weight as solidly as a baseball has ever been hit. The outfielders didn't even try. They just watched the ball sail high overhead and once it landed one of them turned around began walking after it. On the sidelines we all cheered and laughed, and when Allan crossed home plate we ran over and mobbed him, clapping him on the back. That home run, in its fusion of strength, will and 100% effort, has inspired me at various times in my life when I needed it.
