In Memory

Carolyn Thorsen (Kanzler)

Carolyn Thorsen (Kanzler)

Carolyn passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.in Dallas, Texas. She had two children and three grandchildren. Her husband, Don, died in 2011.

Siri Beckman, a childhood friend and neighbor in west Highland Park, wrote this remembrance:  We had many wonderful adventures on horseback during those years. I was 7 and Carolyn was 8. Together we explored the woods and fields and neighborhoods bounded by Skokie Rd., Park Ave W, Ridge Rd. and Northland Ave. In 1953  my family moved and Carolyn and I saw each other only occasionally on family vacations in Wisconsin. Our adventures continued; water skiing, horse back riding, rainy days spent playing cards and board games and the almost daily row over to the ice cream stand on the other side of Gunlock Lake. We lost touch with each other after Carolyn’s graduation from Cornell University, and her marriage to her college beau. Remarkably when Carolyn married her second husband,  Don Kanzler,  they traveled to Maine to visit me! From this point on we kept in touch. Several years after Don passed, Carolyn invited me to travel the Danube with her in order to fulfill a journey started with Don. I was honored. We had a lot to catch up on. I learned she was a gifted silversmith, a pro at auto sales, a commited grandmother, and still, a beautiful woman with an enigmatic smile and subtle sense of humor. I will miss her.
