I'm "all in" to writing personal essays and memoir. Many essays have been published.

"Transitions of Trailblazers" published in Philanthropy Journal, May 2019; describes the leadership transitions of 10 non-profit founders.

Essay in Chicken Soup for the Soul - pub. date Feb.2022

School Story:

Graduated from U. of Michigan. Started career in Chicago in an editorial role at SRA (an educational publisher). Before marriage, I worked at an experimental Job Corps Center in New Bedford MA; that led to a great job at the Office of Economic Opportunity HQ in DC. Helped develop basic ed program for federally-run Job Corps centers. Back in Chicago, married, started family, stopped "working," but held leadership roles in an international program similar to Job Corps. Founded/led Houston READ Commission, the mayor's literacy agency. Opened 13 high tech adult learning centers. Co-founded InFOCUS, an international primary eye care development organization. Moved to Silver Spring MD to become Director of Ashoka, US. In 2010 contributed to 2 published anthologies; in 2013-14 began writing full-time. 3 loving kids and 4 amazing grandchildren live in Chapel Hill; Chandler, AZ; and L.A. Traveled widely - love backroads travel and small towns - maybe because I''m from one! In the works: book of collected essays on widowhood. Life in Silver Spring is more like Highland Park, but enjoyed Houston, especially reconnecting with Sandy (Looney) Maun thanks to the late Eric Engberg!

Sam lived on my street,-our moms were friends His parents, Holocaust survivors, would have been amazed by his wealth and good works in the latter part of his life. Sam and I arranged to meet briefly when our paths crossed I our 50s at  the UMich business school. His philanthropic work survives him.

Sam lived on my street,-our moms were friends His parents, Holocaust survivors, would have been proud of and amazed by his wealth and his good works in the latter part of his life.
Sam and I arranged to meet briefly when our paths crossed in our 50s at the UMich business school (I was there to participate in a panel presentation.
His legacy will be the societal impact of his philanthropy

I'm in this book! Available at Barnes and Noble or Amazon, or ask your library to get a copy.
My essay, "The Presence of Absence," leads off Chapter 4, "The New Normal."

I remember "Ricky" fondly from Braeside School. He lived across the street from the school so we often gathered at his house. A cheerful, good-natured boy - sounds like he went on to a wonderful marriage and a life of remarkable service. RIP.
